• overestimate their spirituality

We are unbalanced in our preaching.

• all Bible genre's
  • short series, we tend to focus on our "pet" subjects
  • long series, we tend not to get into other portions of the Bible
• multiple style and methods

We preach too often.

When moving a person internally, consider....   Evaluation Evaluate the relationship between this person and church and you as leader Evaluate the ministry Evaluate the gifts for a different ministry Conversation Are they interested in a change Do they love the church   Timing If everything is positive from your view from the potential person of change's view from the church view   Then what is the best time to make the change? Are there times of business that need to be avoided? youth - summer Are there church events that need to be planned for?   Music - Christmas program Are there training opportunities that you want this person to attend?   Major principles Lots of prayer lots of open communication - no one likes to feel that they have been left out of the loop or that you're trying to get rid of them. Episode 209: Moving On Up, pt1   To keep good talent, many churches are moving staff to new positions in the church. example - Youth minister is getting older and doesn't want to do all the youth stuff anymore.  example - Music minister is getting older but sees that the church needs to change direction to reach younger people.  He doesn't feel equipped to lead differently but loves the church and would like to stay there.   Is it a good idea to hire from within:   The benefits: An insider can probably cut the transition time down for the congregation. An insider knows how the church works. An insider has some key relationships already in tact. An insider  has an awareness  of the church history. The cautions: The personal transition time for the leader often happens at a slower pace. An insider is tempted to make changes too quickly because they have such a deep awareness of what is wrong. 1. Gather post-event information

• the next event is determined by the outcome of the last event

Consider an event's purpose?

• Does it match your purpose?
• What is the goal
  • outreach
  • inreach
  • service

Consider your ability to do the event well

• differing expectations for different events
  • church picnic versus a regional conference.
• people power
• resources

Consider the benefit of the event.

• Is it worth the effort? Or could something else have yielded better results?
• Is your church energized?

Consider the cost?

• Was the investment of time, talent, and treasures representative of the benefit?
